Summertime Fun

Summertime is here.  With the 4th of July coming up, I think of spending time outside playing games and cooking on the grill.  It seems like the center of every Summer event is the grill.  Everyone loves the classics like hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks, and chicken.  It's also fun to grill up fresh vegetables and fruit.  But, sometimes you just want something different.  I am looking for some new and exciting summer grilling recipes from my fellow bloggers.  Please share anything that you or someone you know cooks up on the grill.  Do you have any desert  recipes or something special for the kids? I am also looking for some fun outside party games that the whole family can enjoy.  Please help make this 4th of July tasty and playful.

  2. TWO WORDS: BLUEBERRY CRUNCH! It takes the statements "make your tongue slap your brain" and "finger lickin' good" to a whole new level. Every time I have ever made it it's always a huge hit! To top it off it is SO easy to make :)

The ingredients are listed in the order in which they are to be poured into an 8 x 10 pan. Preheat the oven to 350.

    3 Cups of Blueberries
1 Can Crushed Pineapple (16 oz)
3/4 Cup Sugar (sprinkled over the top)
    1 Box Yellow Cake Mix
1/4 Cup Sugar (sprinkled over cake mix)
    1 Cup of Pecans Chopped
1 Stick Butter (melted and drooled over cake mix)

Put in oven for 45 minutes until browned and bubbly. Serve with ice cream :)
*ICE CREAM IS A MUST.. You can't have one without the other.

One activity that is always fun in the summer is Cornhole. You would have to make or buy the Cornhole boards and Cornhole bags. I have attached a link to a website that gives you details about the game and how to make everything, if that is something you are interested in. Keep in mind these boards and bags can be used for years as long as you take good care of them. This game always seems to be fun for everyone!

I hope you enjoy your 4th of July!! It is a wonderful time to celebrate and be thankful!

    1. Our whole family loves blueberries, so I'm sure this blueberry crunch will be a big hit. I also love how easy it is to make. Cornhole sounds fun too. We have 2 active boys who will be more than willing to test it out.

  3. Jana,
A yummy dessert my family loves to grill was taught to us from a friend that came to visit from London. If you love bananas, chocolate and marshmallows, this is sure to be a treat you'll love. We're going to call them "Grilled Bananas Overload." Here are the ingredients and directions.

    Grilled Bananas Overload

    tin foil
    banana/person
    chocolate chips
    miniature marshmallows

    1. Tear enough sheets of tin foil, large enough to loosely wrap individual bananas.
    2. Slice through the peel of the banana, not cutting into the banana, leaving a small amount in tack at each end.
    3. Spread open the banana peel and sprinkle some chocolate chips in along the opening.
    4. Next, drop in some miniature marshmallows along the top of the chocolate chips.
    5. Loosely close the tin foil around the banana, twisting each end closed as if it were a hard piece of candy wrapper.
    6. Place on grill until chocolate and marshmallows melt.
    7. Take off grill, unwrap and eat in the peel with a fork.

This is so easy and delicious to make. They aren't very expensive to make either, which is always a nice treat for us. We have a huge family and friend circle. We've made them several times with family and friends since Emilee left this recipe with us and went back home to London.

Water balloon fights would be something fun to do if the children are older and the adults are game. You could even play a dodge ball game with them with the water balloons. There is a new device that will fill up a large amount of water balloons at one time very quickly that several of my children's pastor friends have tried and love. Here is the link for it, http://www.amazon.com/Bunch-Balloons-Water-100-Minute/dp/B00O853BEK/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1435557352&sr=1-1&keywords=bunch+o+balloons.

I actually hope we don't do much of anything at our house for the 4th this year. I would kind of like a nice, quiet day with hopefully no course work to be working on. A girl can dream, right? Anyway, no matter what we do, I wish everyone a happy and safe 4th!

  4. I can't wait to try some of these new treats. I know what you mean about a nice quiet day. I have 2 active boys and I don't think that will happen.
